On leaving school, Sophie completed an Art Foundation course followed by a BA Hons. in Sculpture at De Montfort University. She was offered her very first millinery job for the BBC during her foundation year. This background on art and sculpture is always apparent in much of Sophie’s work.
Having been drawn to and collecting vintage hats for years, Sophie decided to train in Couture Millinery with Rose Cory. Following her training with Rose, she spent four years in the Hat and Jewellery department at the Royal Opera House, where she honed her skills both in all areas of millinery and jewellery.
As the refurbishment of the Royal Opera House commenced, Sophie moved into costume, working as Head of Costume on the “Riverdance” touring production (The Liffey Company) for the following five years.
Having started a family, Sophie combined her home life with part-time work in Costume for the next fifteen years.
In 2015, Sophie returned to full-time work, specialising in millinery for Film and TV, both on site as in house milliner or from her own studio as an outworker.
